In the 17th century, with the refinement of carpentry techniques, chests began to be enriched with 3-4 drawers in the lower part; this gave rise to the chest of drawers, one of the most common pieces of furniture in history, carved on all sides, with bambocci ornaments, cherub heads, eyelashes and pilasters.

Antique sideboards can be made from various types of wood, the most common being walnut, beech, cherry, mahogany and rosewood. The structure has been renovated and enhanced with an upper section and doors. The most common models are made from walnut.

Today it is one of the most sought-after pieces of furniture among antique furniture lovers and connoisseurs.

The Neoclassical style of decoration and furniture developed in the second half of the 18th century, in opposition to the opulence of the Rococo style. In France, it takes its name from the reigning monarch, Louis XVI.
